Committees
Members can volunteer for any of the listed committees, except for the Executive Committee, which is exclusively composed of the officers from the corporation.
Membership Committee
- Purpose: To grow and retain membership by engaging with businesses and fostering relationships.
- Key Responsibilities:
- Support programs that retain and engage existing members.
- Organize member networking events.
- Gather feedback from members to improve services.
- Develop strategies to attract new members.
- Leadership: Chaired by a board member passionate about community outreach.
Small Business Committee
- Purpose:
- Provides oversight and direction for resourcing small business needs through the chamber of commerce.
- Key Responsibilities:
- Oversight of the Small Business Success Program, (SBSP) and other business programs and services for members.
- Leadership: Chaired by a board member and staff with business experience and expertise.
Programs & Events Committee
- Purpose: To plan and execute programs and events that support networking, education, and community engagement for greater regional impact.
- Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and coordinate signature events including Adelante Awards, Golf Tournament, ELLA, EL, and Job Fair.
- Plan and coordinate educational programs such as SBSP, Cafe con Business, Leaders Lunch, Professional Leadership Development (HLI), High School Leadership and Career Explorations Program (HS HLI).
- Plan and execute networking events for greater membership engagement.Â
- Manage event logistics, sponsorships, and promotions.
- Collaborate with other committees for event success.
- Evaluate event effectiveness and gather attendee feedback.
- Dedicated to working with member organizations to develop new programs to meet their needs.
- Leadership: Chaired by a board member and staff with event management expertise.

Marketing Committee
- Purpose: To enhance the chamber’s visibility and communicate its value to the community.
- Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement marketing strategies.
- Manage social media, newsletters, and press releases.
- Create promotional materials for events and initiatives.
- Ensure consistent branding and messaging.
- Leadership: Chaired by a board member or volunteer with marketing expertise.

Legislative/Public Policy Committee
- Purpose: To advocate for policies that benefit the business community.
- Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor local, state, and federal policy developments.
- Develop positions on key business issues.
- Organize meetings with elected officials and stakeholders.
- Educate members on legislative changes and their impact.
- Leadership: Chaired by a board member with knowledge of public affairs.
This committee is strictly non-partisan.Â
Governance Committee
- Purpose:
- To assure the organization operates according to member-approved By-Laws, Robert’s Rules of Order, and Parliamentarian procedures.
- Key Responsibilities:
- Board governance systems and board/committee effectiveness practices.
- Oversight of key governance documents including:
o Bylaws
o Committee Charters
o Board of Director Policies - Oversight of role clarity and accountability frameworks
- Leadership: Chaired by a board member with governance experience and CEO of organization.

Finance Committee
- Purpose: To oversee the financial management and health of the chamber.
- Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and review the annual budget.
- Monitor financial performance and ensure transparency.
- Recommend financial policies and procedures.
- Review and approve major expenditures and financial reports.
- Leadership: Chaired by the Treasurer or designated board member.

Board Development Committee
- Purpose: Assure cohesive board succession planning
- Key Responsibilities:
- assure proper timing and execution of board elections process
- Oversees the election process according to By-Laws
- Identifies chamber members as potential board members and encourages them to apply for a board seat.
- Enforces term limits.
Executive Committee
Purpose: Leads the HCCSTL Board of Directors.Â
Key Responsibilities: Exercises close supervision of chamber operations. Oversees internal management controls to assure the achievement of annual goals and projected budget.Â
Leadership: Officers of the Board of Directors which includes the Board Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer and Secretary.
